Fjallraven

Fjallraven has been building outdoor equipment in Ornskoldsvik, Sweden since Ake Nordin founded the company in 1960. The gear is made to be maintained rather than replaced, and most of it is still recognizable a decade into being used.

Much of the range is cut from G-1000, a dense weave of 65% polyester and 35% cotton that you weatherproof yourself by rubbing in Greenland Wax. More wax gives more wind and water resistance, less gives more breathability, and you reapply it as it wears off. The Kanken line uses Vinylon F instead, a fabric whose fibers swell when damp to tighten the weave. Both are water resistant rather than waterproof.
